Essential Chocolate Waffle Batter

One small chocolatey addition to your waffle batter and it's an indulgent treat.

You'll need: Sage No-Mess Waffle Maker

Ingredients

  • 150 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa), chopped
  • 6½ tbsp (100 g) unsalted butter, chopped
  • 2 large eggs
  • 375 ml milk
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 300 g plain flour
  • 150 g caster sugar
  • 25 g cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp Coarse salt

To serve

  • Double cream
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Chocolate sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat waffle maker with dial up to number 4 on the LIGHT/DARK indicator dial.
  • Preheat until the orange light flashes and the word HEATING disappears.
  • Meanwhile, put the chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on High in 30 second bursts, stirring until melted and smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Put the eggs, milk and vanilla in a medium bowl and whisk until well combined. Stir in cooled chocolate mixture.
  • Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and make a well in the center.
  • Whisk the egg mixture into the flour mixture to form a smooth batter.
  • Pour ½ cup of batter into waffle maker and close the lid to cook.
  • Repeat with the remaining batter.
  • Serve topped with cream, strawberries, raspberries and chocolate sauce.
